Honoring Advocates of Community Service
On Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at the Fall Benefit Auction Gala, supporters, volunteers, and community partners of Community Impact gathered to honor three remarkable individuals: Tom Glocer CC'81, Rita Pietropinto-Kitt CC '93, SOA '96, and Tom Kitt CC '96.
Tom Glocer was an early advocate of Community Impact and is the visionary who helped us move our Gala benefit auction to the next level - both literally and figuratively. By enabling Community Impact to use the Reuters space in Times Square in 2013, Tom helped raise our profile which allowed us to garner flexible funding with a wider range of supporters and alums.
Rita Pietropinto-Kitt and Tom Kitt have been dedicated to service and the arts since their time as Columbia College students. Rita has served as class president, resident assistant, orientation coordinator and Community Impact volunteer. Presenting the award to Tom and Rita was Board Chair Rose Kob, who spoke affectionately about her friendship with Rita and reminisced about when Tom and Rita first met.
One of the Gala's highlights every year is the voice and silent auction. Guests were able to bid on unique items donated by our honorees and supporters such as Hamilton tickets, signed artwork, and tickets to NFL and NBA games in New York City and Boston.
Guests were also treated to the Columbia Kingsmen's wonderful a capella performance of Nat King Cole's "L-O-V-E." Former Kingsmen Tom Kitt joined the group to sing Marshall Crenshaw's "Mary Anne" to the delight of the crowd. Guests described the evening as magical.
Our 2018 Gala Committee worked tirelessly to ensure the Gala's success. We are incredibly thankful to the following Committee members: Marcia Sells (Chair), Donna Badrig, Jacqueline Blackett, Maria Davila-Peguero, Howard Jacobson, Rose Kob, Dr. Cheryl Kunis, Jessica Marinaccio, Jeff Nabi, Cheryl Parham, and Ellen Smith.
